Monsanto
Monsanto is a company that produces genetically modified seeds and a popular herbicide called Round Up.
In the movie, Food Inc the director, Robert Kenner, touches the topic of how Monsanto runs 90% of the seed market. Monsanto uses contracts to keep many farmers that use their genetically modified seeds "locked" into always using their seeds instead of going off into another market. It is believed that Monsanto has many ties with people in Congress, the White House and more. Many believe that Monsanto's ties with people in the federal government help give them a "one up" in the market. Is Monsanto using influence in the government to help them take over the market?
Also, Monsanto sues many small town farmers for many reasons. Are they really as "for the average farmer" as they depict in all of their advertisements?
